Steve Jobs initial reaction to the Segway: “It sucks…”

According to this article at Working Knowledge, at Harvard Business school, Steve Jobs’ initial reaction to the Segway was that the the design “sucks” and the “shape is not innovative, it’s not elegant and it doesn’t feel anthropomorphic.”

Well said Steve. I could not agree more as I myself do not know what all the hoopla about the Segway is anyway. I’d take a cool kick scooter like this over a Segway any time (ironically enough, Steve owns one of those. In fact everybody else at Pixar does, too). Why not have some fun and exercise? But I guess the exercise bit does not figure into most Americans daily schedule, so $4,950 for a quasi scooter is alright.

Not to mention to read Steve Jobs saying that they should have a company redesign the Segway as a good design company could to “things that would make you shit in your pants .”

You got to love Steve. He can be a real jackass at times, according to numerous sources, but he definitely has some vision. Can’t wait for his keynote at WWDC next Monday.
