Rice to testify in front of 9/11 Comission

HA! That is really all I have to say about this.

Think my edit had anything to do with the White House decision to let her?

Rice should have nothing to hide from 9/11 Commission

Condoleezza Rice?s continued refusals to appear in a public hearing in front of the 9/11 Comission hurt the Bush administration?s image.

SPJ award

Well the verdict is in… I won an award from the Society of Professional Journalists. I am at their yearly regional convention in Ft. Lauderdale for the weekend and placed third in their editorial writing category.

What kind of bummed me out is that I looked at the other entries and didn’t really like them that much. But I guess I am not exactly objective. After all, if I didn’t think I should write my edits the way I do, I wouldn’t. But hey, nice to get some sort of recognition. Even if I am not sure how serious to take the whole thing.

9/11 inquiry reveals a lesson learned the hard way

We ran this as an editorial but it is really more of a news analysis. If there had been room in the news section, we had run it in there. But here it is, so I guess it’s an…

German bureaucracy

If there is one thing that annoyed me in Germany it was the petty bureaucracy that is present at every level. I mean, there is organized clubs of anarchists.

This seems to go down those lines as well.

Vicious circle of violence has to be broken

In order for peace to be achieved between Israel and Palestine, both sides have to end a trend of violence that has spanned many years. Assassinations, like the one Monday, achieve nothing in the long run.

Is Iraq Bush’s Watergate?

In this column, teased on the front page, no less, I argue that we need to know why we went into Iraq before the election. If we do not, and an impeachment is started after Bush is re-elected, (god forbid) it will hurt the democratic process even more than Nixon did.

Go to sleep - Radiohead

Something for the rag and bone man
Over my dead body
Something big is gonna happen
Over my dead body
Someone’s son or someone’s daughter
Over my dead body
This is how I end up sucked in
Over my dead body
I’m gonna go to sleep
And let this wash all over me
We don’t really want a monster taking over
Tip toe around, tie him down
We don’t want the loonies takin’ over
Tip toe around, tie him down
May pretty horses come to you as you sleep
I’m gonna go to sleep
And let this wash all over me

That’s how I feel about Bush’s continued lying. Rumsfeld recently said he never claimed there was an “imminent danger” from Saddam. What a fucking liar. (column about it monday) Should we re-elect Bush? Over my dead body.

Goodbye old-europe friend

chiracschroeder-ap300 For some reason this photo of Jacques Chirac waving goodbye to Gerhard Schröder after their meeting at the Elysee Palace in Paris completely cracked me up.

?Coalition of the willing? not so willing anymore

The new government of Spain, elected into office Sunday, announced it will pull its troops out of Iraq, proving that the United States should have built a broader base of support before commiting.

Enjoying democracy – what a concept

“While Kucinich was competing in the same ballgame, Kerry and he were definitely playing in different leagues as far as security was concerned.”

my presidential likings

A friend of mine (thanks Khari) send me a link to an AOL questionaire you can take in order to determine which presidential candidate (Nader is mysteriously absent) is most in line with your likings.

Kucinich photo and sound files

As the opinion column I wrote this week (link) showed, I had the chance not only to attend a guest lecture Congressman Dennis Kucinich gave here at USF, but also to ask him some questions afterwards. He may not have a shot at winning the presidency but he is a competing presidential candidate and I got to talk to him. Pretty cool. (photo and sound files inside)

Race for candidacy over, bring on the next phase

John Kerry has all but won the Democratic nomination, leaving only the choice of a running mate open. The party’s plan to have a candidate selected early has worked in Kerry’s favor.

best of procrastination 2003

Tonight I finally gathered the columns I had been meaning to pick for about a month, cut them out, pasted them on letter sized sheets of paper and dropped them off at the post office to enter for a $1,000 scholarship in a competition. Naturally not everything went smoothly…
