When I wrote the edit on voter fraud tonight I realized I had forgotten to post a short interview I did with Greg Palast on Friday, Oct 15. Palast, as I also say in the edit (entry), was the reporter who broke the story about the felon purge list that illegally disenfranchised thousands of voters in Florida during the election in 2000.

Audio file here, a transcripts is inside.

Question: Why do you think we have to rely on journalists like you, from countries abroad, to get informed about what is going on in our own country?
Greg Palast: Well, I just watched Fox News on the plane ride over for the first time in many years. I was ready to lose my lunch.
I mean, I don?t care about the bias, I can live with bias. What I can?t live with is propaganda, misinformation and nothing (else). You know squat about what?s happening (when watching Fox News).
Their one story on voter fraud, which they had tonight, was about people registering in more than one state. Actually that?s almost a non existent matter in America. Most people are not ready to go to jail for double registration. It?s a complete phony. They don?t want to talk about the systematic dumping of a million black votes in this country.

Q: But how do you suggest to get the word out better in this country?
Palast: We got to do it our own way. That?s why I am DVDs. BBC can?t get an American network to broadcast (my movie) so we do DVDs, we do home viewings, community radio, weekly papers and the Internet is crucial. If they own one outlet we have to move to the next. We have to stay
underground.

I agree with Palast that alternative news sources (Such as this site, I guess.) are important. But in the long run I’d hope that such trustworthy news sources do not stay in the “underground” but come to the forefront of the media and journalism again.
